Author Interview with Dan Haring + Giveaway: Signed ARC of Oldsoul

Hi everyone! We’ve started the Part 2 of Dystopian Domination 2! Check out these posts:

Today I’ll be interviewing Dan Haring, the author of Oldsoul. Stick around for the giveaway at the end!

What or who inspired you to write Oldsoul?

It started out as just something to do. I wrote the first chapter one night, and I liked how it sounded, so I decided to keep writing. I was thinking about the term "old soul", someone who is wise beyond his or her years, and that started the gears turning in my head. The idea that came from that was certain people are the vessels for souls of people who have passed away, and they're able to communicate with those souls.

What kind of world did you portray in Oldsoul?

The world is exactly like ours, with the exception of the Oldsouls and the immortals they're at war with. But since most of the fighting between the two groups goes on behind the scenes, the majority of people don't think there's anything supernatural about the world.

Can you tell us about your main character?

Jason is an 18-year-old rookie Philadelphia cop. He's an only child, and when he was twelve his father abandoned Jason and his mom. He considers himself a pretty average guy, but that changes drastically.

What are the themes tackled in your novel?

I didn't go for anything too deep. Just the basic themes of not giving up, of finding strength within yourself, and of good trying to prevail over evil.

What is the best thing that a reviewer said about your novel?

It hasn't been reviewed anywhere that I'm aware of. We're sending out ARCs soon.

Did you ever base any of your characters on real persons?

I named a lot of the characters after family and friends, and I'm sure subconsciously things slipped in from people I know or have seen. But none of the characters were based on specific people.

Can you give us one line from your novel that you find important, striking or unforgettable?

I don't know how striking or unforgettable it is, but I like this line. "I’m still high off the adrenaline, blood pounding through my skull. In rhythm with my feet, the words repeat in my mind: I’m. Not. Dead."

Giveaway: Signed ARC of Oldsoul by Dan Haring

Jason Gouvas doesn’t want to believe he has special abilities or that he's an Oldsoul-- a vessel for the souls of people who have passed away, but the dead girl in his mind can be very persuasive.

Her name is Erin, and through her Jason is able to access the knowledge and skills of the souls within him. And with a group of power-hungry immortals bent on destroying the Oldsouls and overthrowing humanity, he's going to need them all.

OLDSOUL will be published April 24th, 2012 by Pendrell Publishing.

  1. I don't know what I would do to be honest, but pray for their souls maybe.

  4. I'd help old souls either fix whatever they haven't had a chance to do and help them live part of the life they wanted. Or help them help the people they love.

  5. I think I would try to help the "old souls" but I'd probably go crazy listening to the voices in my head!

  6. I would try and find a way for those souls to 'move on'. It just can't be healthy to be cooped up like that!

  7. I would want to do whatever I could to get them out. It might be cool for a bit, learning about them or just having the feeling of another soul but I don't think I could handle it for long.

  8. I think that I would go crazy. It's hard enough having one voice in my head (my own) without everyone else clamoring to be heard!

  9. To be honest, I would do my best to get rid of the vessel-ness :P I don't think I could handle it.

  10. I think it would be hard to deal with. I'd probably try to talk to the loved ones of the deceased. Maybe I could help them in their grief.

  11. I would try to help them finish up any loose ends so that they can pass on.

  12. Naturally I would want them out so I would do all I could to help them move on. However if that wasn't possible I would just make sure they stayed in order and I remained the dominate soul!
