Waiting on Wednesday: Fissure + Echo

I’m posting today! J It’s been a long time since I did this. For today, I have two interesting YA novels for you.

Publication Date: 2012
Published by: Picayune

For as long as she can remember, fourteen-year-old Renee Turner has found solace in books.

Books dull the grief left by her mother's death and her father's subsequent withdrawal. Books distract her from the cruel barbs of Evelynne Geld, and temper the indifferent brand of authority doled out at school. Books act as a spyglass to life outside the stifling West Virginia town that she's desperate to escape, but resigned to enduring.

Still, it's only when Renee steals a dusty old volume from a neighbor's attic that she truly discovers the transformative power of books. For in its pages Renee finds an enchanting new world: one where she is exalted, worshiped...and hunted.

Why I Chose this:

First of all, look at ze cover! Isn’t it gorgeous?? After I read the synopsis, I instantly thought this: Narnia, YA-style! I’m excited to find out about how Renee is worshipped and hunted. The last sentence made this a very intriguing and mysterious YA for me.

Energy-hungry mages travel toward Vallara from every corner of the continent. Fueled by the two suns, each mage holds the power of the elements: air, earth, fire, metal, water, and ether. They harness the elements to draw energy from the most readily available resource. Humans.

Ashara can't shake her guilt over her brother's death at the hands of a mage. So when her other sibling wakes up bleeding after violent nightmares—nightmares about Ashara's fiery death—she is determined to protect her. She seeks help from Loken, a young man who is duty bound to protect their homeland.

Loken is consumed with tracking the the mages moving steadily toward them across the continent. He and Ashara bond over a common goal: to stop the mages from destroying their home.

But Loken suspects the future of their homeland may depend on Ashara's death.

Why I Chose this:

Power hungry mages? Elemental powers? Drawing energy from humans? This sounds like my kind of book! J I have a feeling this will be thrilling, maybe action-packed (magically action packed I mean). Can’t wait!
