Author Interview with Tiffany Truitt + Giveaway: Chosen Ones!

Hi everyone! First of all, I’d like to apologize to everybody for this late post. This was supposed to go up yesterday but I had internet problems and I couldn't post.

Today I have the author of one of the most anticipated novels of 2012, Tiffany Truitt for a short interview about her book, Chosen Ones. Hope you like it! Stick around for a giveaway!

Why write Dystopian?

There is the obvious answer---dystopian is hot right now. But any author who simply writes towards a trend is not only doing himself / herself a disservice, but is also cheating the reader. I write dystopian because I am fascinated by the genre. There is so much discourse about our own times, country, and ideas written underneath the flash of the current dystopian novels out today. Reading books like The Hunger Games and Divergent reveal a lot about the anxieties of today’s world. Besides, what better reader than a young adult can relate to overbearing authority figures who impede on individuality?

Who are the chosen ones?

The chosen ones are genetically created superhumans. These beings are created in labs to replace mankind’s depleting numbers. The council, an all-powerful government agency, trains these beings to fight the war that continues to ravage what’s left of the United States. But they might not be the protectors the council claims they are….

Do the Chosen Ones have souls? Can they love?

That’s for the reader to decide. In fact, it’s a concept the book explores. The novel’s protagonist, Tess, a natural (those born outside of the lab), is forced into the world of the chosen ones. Through her experiences with the beings, she attempts to define humanity itself.

How do the chosen ones react to humans?

The chosen ones go through extensive training. This training does not only focus on physical skills, but also includes heavy propaganda. The chosen ones are taught to view the naturals as below them---these are the creatures that brought the country near complete and utter destruction through their laziness and desires. As a result, most of the chosen ones see humans as petulant children they must look after.

Giveaway: Ebook of Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt

The Lost Souls, book 1 hitting bookshelves April 3, 2012 from Entangled Publishing!

What if you were mankind’s last chance at survival?
Sixteen-year-old Tess lives in a compound in what was once the Western United States, now decimated after a devastating fourth World War. But long before that, life as we knew it had been irrevocably changed, as women mysteriously lost the ability to bring forth life. Faced with the extinction of the human race, the government began the Council of Creators, meant to search out alternative methods of creating life. The resulting artificial human beings, or Chosen Ones, were extraordinarily beautiful, unbelievably strong, and unabashedly deadly.

Life is bleak, but uncomplicated for Tess as she follows the rigid rules of her dystopian society, until the day she begins work at Templeton, the training facility for newly created Chosen Ones. There, she meets James, a Chosen One whose odd love of music and reading rivals only her own. The attraction between the two is immediate in its intensity—and overwhelming in its danger.

But there is more to the goings-on at Templeton than Tess ever knew, and as the veil is lifted from her eyes, she uncovers a dark underground movement bent not on taking down the Chosen Ones, but the Council itself. Will Tess be able to stand up to those who would oppress her, even if it means giving up the only happiness in her life?

  1. I find it like an X-Men or Heroes revival book but a little bit different. They don't have souls. What are they, like a cyborg? Or are they just genetically enhanced humans? I want to read. I'm intrigue.

  22. I guess the chosen one is capable of love. I would like to find the answer out from the book, to see how the author illustrates it. Can't wait to read it!

  23. I think Chosen One are capable because James loves reading and music, so why not a human
My question: How did the idea of Chosen Ones came to you?
    BTW, thanks for this giveaway!

  24. Well if James can love music than it stands to reason he can love a person. This book sounds so neat. Kind of like a cross between Children of Men and The Handmaid's Tale.

  25. I do think that at least some of the chosen ones can feel love, it wouldn´t be much of a love story otherwise. Thanks for the giveaway, the chosen ones seems great :)

  26. I think that this question is always a great one, one that must be asked over and over so that retain our humanity. I believe that anything capable of thought has the ability to love.

  27. Sounds really interesting. I love the cover! Thanks for the giveaway.

  28. I definitely think they're capable of loving someone. Maybe not all of them, but everyone is an exception to something.

  29. I am so excited for this! I do think that the Chosen Ones are capable of love, or at least they learn to love at the novel goes on :)

  30. Do the chosens one knwo what love is?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for the interview I love learning more about the authors. It's hard to tell if The Chosen Ones are capable of love without reading the novel but I'm gonna go ahead and say yes because anyone or anything is capable of love (or any emotion) it's just if they choose to display or show that emotion <3
