Book Review: Eternal by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Book Description:
(From the back of the book)

At last, Miranda is the life of the party: all she had to do was die. In the afterlife, she goes from high-school stage wannabe to vixen vampire-princess overnight. Meanwhile, Zachary, her reckless guardian angel, goes undercover in a bid to save his girl’s soul before all hell arrives – quite literally – on their doorstep.

My Thoughts:

On the night after Miranda auditioned for the school play: Romeo and Juliet, she and her bestfriend, Lucy, go to a DVD rental shop. There, Lucy manages to get a date in the creepiest setting possible – the cemetery. Although this doesn’t creep her out at all, because Lucy loves horror. Miranda had no idea that going to the cemetery would change her life forever.

Miranda is this average girl who wants to be a Thespian. She likes acting. She wants to be the life of the party. After getting bitten by a vampire in the cemetery, she wakes up a month later. Ta-da! She's transformed into a vampire princess. The bloodthirst comes here. The badness comes here. The vampire-ness comes here. Eventhough she's now dead, there is still a part of her that remains human. Her conscience or almost-conscience for this matter.

Zachary is Miranda's guardian angel that I’d definitely want to have (second to Patch). He commits mistakes - mistakes that can be considered sins if we would highlight the fact that he didn’t follow the rules and that he disobeyed. He falls because of Miranda. He falls for Miranda. And then he fails to save her. This is the part where Zach feels bad. But then he’s given another chance – a mission. It turns out this mission leads him to the place where Miranda is.

Can he do his mission and get his angel powers back and save Miranda at the same time?

Eternal is a unique collision of two different worlds: the vampire world & the angel world that lets the readers feel romance and gothic suspense. This got me flipping page after page until I got to the end that's sprinkled with action!

This is a story of love that will encourage us to right our wrongs and to give people a chance to change. And it's not just other people, this lesson could also apply to ourselves. We can still change no matter how much messed up we are.

If you're a Twilight fan or simply a vampire fanatic, you will LOVE Eternal! Angel lovers will also love this series!
