This is a feature/meme hosted by A Tapestry of Words where bloggers choose a book each week leading up to Christmas and say why it's made it onto my wishlist. But since this is the first time I'm particiating, I will post 4 books for all the weeks of December.
Book # 1: Matched by Ally Condie
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.
Why: It's dystopian! It got tons of good reviews! And just look at that cover. Need I say more?
Book # 2: The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
Mackie Doyle is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. He is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is fighting to survive in the human world.
Mackie would give anything to live among us, to practice on his bass or spend time with his crush, Tate. But when Tate's baby sister goes missing, Mackie is drawn irrevocably into the underworld of Gentry, known as Mayhem. He must face the dark creatures of the Slag Heaps and find his rightful place, in our world, or theirs.
Why: I've been following the Merry Sisters of Fate for a while now. I love their stories, especially Brenna's! They're creepy. They make the hair on my arms stand. I want want want The Replacement! I wasn't able to buy this book. When I got to the bookstore, the employee said someone else already bought it. :( And right now, there's still no stock.
Book # 3: Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabelle, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.
Why: I loved Shiver so much! It's such a shame that I haven't read the sequel yet. I know. It's unbelievable. People raved about this book and as of now, people are already raving about Forever - the third book of the series. I need to catch up!
Book # 4: The Lost Saint by Bree Despain
The non-stop sequel to The Dark Divine delivers an even hotter romance and more thrilling action than Bree Despain's first novel. Grace Divine made the ultimate sacrifice to cure Daniel Kalbi. She gave her soul to the wolf to save him and lost her beloved mother. When Grace receives a haunting phone call from Jude, she knows what she must do. She must become a Hound of Heaven. Desparate to find Jude, Grace befriends Talbot - a newcomer to town who promises her that he can help her be a hero. But as the two grow closer, the wolf grows in Grace, and her relationship with Daniel begins to crumble. Unaware of the dark path she is walking, Grace becomes prideful in her new abilities - not realizing that an old enemy has returned and deadly trap is about to be sprung. Readers, raveous for more Grace and Daniel, will be itching to sink their teeth into The Lost Saint.
Why: I remember last year when I joined all the contests for The Dark Divine. I really joined ALL of them until my fingers hurt. Successfully, I won an ARC copy of TDD + nail polish from Pure Imagination. I loved it too. It was a good retelling and it surprised me. The sequel is going to be published in a few days time. I can't wait to read it! Unfortunately, when TDD was published, it took months to get here. I'm guessing the same thing will happen with TLS.
There. That's my ultimate wishlist for this December. And no, I'm not going to spend anything for books this Christmas. I need to finish reading my TBR pile first! But...it'd be lovely if I get these. Lol!
